The Ferry
Do you want to visit Schiermonnikoog? Then board the ferry in Lauwersoog. The boat not only takes you to the island in 45 minutes but also allows you to experience the unique ecosystem of the Wadden Sea and enjoy breathtaking views over the sea.
Activities on Schiermonnikoog
There are plenty of activities on Schiermonnikoog to entertain the whole group. The National Park Schiermonnikoog is a playground for nature enthusiasts. Take a walk through the dunes, where rare birds flutter and colorful flowers grow. Cycle along winding paths leading to secluded beaches. Enjoy a refreshing sea breeze during the ride while gazing over the endless horizon.
If you are unable to bring your own bike, no problem. You can rent a bike directly on the island at Veerdam bike rental, even for longer periods.

The Wadden

Attractions
In addition to all the fun activities, there are also some unique attractions to admire on Schiermonnikoog, including the white and red lighthouses. Only the red tower (De Noordertoren) is still in use and manned 24 hours a day. In 1854, the white Zuidertoren was erected. Did you know that in the past, when light characters did not yet exist, they sometimes set up two lighthouses? This helped sailors determine their location at sea.
Museums
Feel like soaking up some more culture? Pay a visit to the Bunkermuseum Schlei. Located on the bike path southwest of the Marlijn beach pavilion, it tells the story of how this bunker served as a communication center during World War II.
Prefer a less heavy museum visit? Go to the Shell Museum, get to know the world of mollusks, and find various spectacular beach finds
Restaurants
In addition to all the activities, there are plenty of restaurants where you can enjoy a delicious meal. Strandpaviljoen de Marlijn is the northernmost hospitality location in the Netherlands and is open all year round. Step inside for a cup of coffee or a sandwich, but also for a very extensive lunch or dinner.
Want something simple? No problem! Go to the 'de Halte' snack bar on Schiermonnikoog and enjoy exceptionally tasty and affordable products. How about delicious fresh fries with a beef croquette or a pure beef burger on a white organic bun? Gluten-free options are also available.
Looking for a bit more class? Step into De 4 dames - hotel, wine bar & bistro. Here, you can choose from a very extensive wine assortment, craft beers, many whiskies, and rum varieties. The dishes are the size of a starter/main course, so you can enjoy a variety of specialties!
