Nature on Schouwen-Duiveland

Schouwen-Duiveland also still bears the scars from the 1953 flood disaster, as is evident in the interesting nature the island has to offer. In addition to stunning forests, there are also beautiful dunes, dikes and salt marshes. You can explore all the island has to offer by bike, but also on foot if you prefer. It is a well-known nature reserve for getting out and about. You will also find Boswachterij Westerschouwen (the forestry) here. If you want to grab a bite to eat or warm up with a mug of coffee, you'll find Paviljoen Duinzigt right by the entrance to this forest. Another nature reserve that is well worth a visit is Nationaal Park Oosterschelde, a great place for bird watchers and cyclists: in fact, you can cycle along the entire southern coast here. In short: there is so much nature on Schouwen-Duiveland that you can enjoy during your stay.

Strolling

The inhabited part of Schouwen-Duiveland is also definitely worth a visit. Historic places like Bruinisse, Brouwershaven and Zierikzee are worth exploring and an excellent way to get to know Zeeland better. Combining nature and culture is ever so easy here! Take a lovely stroll together through the old streets with the beautiful listed buildings. Or why not enjoy delicious food and drinks on a convivial terrace? Schouwen-Duiveland has several museums, including the Watersnoodmuseum. Located in Ouwerkerk, this museum gives visitors a disconcerting look at the natural disaster that devastated so much of Zeeland in 1953. At these beaches, the water gets deeper very gradually, which makes them suitable for children. Natural beaches are also available, where you can enjoy peace and quiet, as well as two zones for nudist recreation. If you love water sports or other sporting activities, head over to the dedicated water sports beaches where you can exercise to your heart's content. Last but not least, there are family water sports beaches, which are suitable for families and water sports enthusiasts alike.

Schouwen-Duiveland is a stunning island where you can enjoy great food and drink. There is a wide variety of restaurants where you can enjoy Zeeland's specialties and other delicacies. One of the most famous restaurants on the island is De Oude Haven in Zierikzee. With its extensive menu of fish and meat dishes and a wide selection of wines, you are sure to have a great time.
